The Maryland State region of Timonium, with a population bordering 10,000, is in Baltimore County and stages races as part of the Maryland State Fair. The 5 furlong oval track, with separate 4 furlong and 6 ½ furlong chutes, share a 213 metre home straight and host 8 days of racing annually. The racecourse has an open air grandstand with the capacity to seat 5000 people, and a stable block which can stable up to 600 horses. The track boasts a rich history dating back to a first meeting in 1887 and continues to host high quality thoroughbred racing, from late August to early September, culminating in the running of the Alma North Stakes.
